Hawaiian Fine Art

Banana Patch Studio proudly presents the Fine Art of five well known Hawaiian artists.  Below you will find information about each of the artists.   On the left you will find the menu for the artwork of each of the artists.

Joanna Carolan

Joanna Carolan first came to Kauai'i in 1967.  She spent her summers and part of her teenage years living with her grandparents in Kapa'a.  She made Kaua'i her permanent home in 1991.

Joanna studied design at the San Francisco Institute of Design and Merchandising, watercolor painting at the University of California, Santa Cruz and ceramics in Sydney, Australia.  In 1991, Joanna founded Banana Patch Studio on Kaua'i where her art and designs are hand painted onto ceramic  tiles and pottery.

Joanna says, "My work is inspired by the Hawaiian culture and the the natural beauty of the Hawaiian islands."

Joanna has been commissioned to do several large murals for hotels in Hawaii.   Her latest commissioned work can be found at the Marriott Waikiki.    Click here to view her commissioned work.

Anna Skaradzinska

Anna Skaradzinska was born in Poland and grew up mainly in Warsaw during the Communist regime.  She emigrated to the U.S. at the age of fourteen.  Anna works mainly with acrylic paint.  She frequently uses three dimensional forms such as recycled wooden objects or palm fronds as her canvases.

Anna's prints are individually signed by the artist.

Anna says , "My art is a continuous series of mirrored images reflecting my soul's journey through this life experience..."

Nancy Forbes

Nancy Forbes works mainly in watercolors.  Before becoming a full time artist, Nancy spent 25 years as a parent educator, helping adults see the world through the eyes of two-year olds.

Art prints of Nancy's watercolors are matted and signed by the artist.

Nancy says, "the children's vision inspired me to see Kaua'i with two-year old eyes.   Watercolors are the perfect medium for expressing my vision of Kaua'i because they capture our island's colors and convey its stability and movement."

Jana Viles

Jana Viles earned a BA. degree in ceramics and interior design from TCU in Ft. Worth, Texas.  Upon moving to Kauai in 1988, her career as a potter evolved into sculpting.

Jana says, "Carving these wall plaques has been rewarding.  Creating dimensional forms allows the subject to come to life in a new fashion."

Scott Munzig

Scott Munzig works primarily with acrylic paint on canvas.  He began painting in 1998 and is self taught.

Scott says, "I incorporate into my art the never-ending variety of tropical images, the miracles of nature and my love of the ocean.  My seascapes are touched by fantasy.   They provide an impressionistic glimpse of a possible paradise."
